Adipocytokines in Thyroid Dysfunction
Adipocytokines are important mediators of interorgan crosstalk in metabolic regulation. Thyroid diseases have effects on metabolism and inflammation. The mechanism of these effects is not clear. Recently, there are several reports suggesting this interrelation between adipocytokines and thyroid dysfunction. In this review, we summarize this relation according to the literature.
متن کاملTumor Necrosis Factor-α and Interleukin-6: Potential Interorgan Inflammatory Mediators Contributing to Destructive Periodontal Disease in Obesity or Metabolic Syndrome
Obesity has become a worldwide health burden in the last two decades. Obesity has been associated with increased comorbidities, such as coronary artery disease, diabetes, and destructive periodontal disease. Obesity is also part of a group of risk factors occurring together in an individual, which is referred to as metabolic syndrome. Clinical studies have shown higher risk for destructive peri...
متن کاملFrom Psychoneuroimmunology to Immunometabolism: a New Reading for Oral Emerging Pathologies
Gingivitis and periodontitis are the two most common forms of oral emerging pathologies and recently the attention of researchers has focused on the relationship between abovementioned local pathologies and systemic chronic diseases. Especially several case-control and cohort studies have reported the contribution of obesity and type 2 diabetes due to their alarming spread in our western societ...
متن کاملThe NLRP3 Inflammasome as a Novel Player of the Intercellular Crosstalk in Metabolic Disorders
The combination of obesity and type 2 diabetes is a serious health problem, which is projected to afflict 300 million people worldwide by 2020. Both clinical and translational laboratory studies have demonstrated that chronic inflammation is associated with obesity and obesity-related conditions such as insulin resistance. However, the precise etiopathogenetic mechanisms linking obesity to diab...
متن کاملExtracellular Vesicles: Novel Mediators of Cell Communication In Metabolic Disease.
Metabolic homeostasis emerges from the complex, multidirectional crosstalk between key metabolic tissues including adipose tissue, liver, and skeletal muscle. This crosstalk, traditionally mediated by hormones and metabolites, becomes dysregulated in human diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Extracellular vesicles (EVs; including exosomes) are circulating, cell-derived nanoparticles containi...
